Argentina v Ghana
Argentina have impressed on their tournament debut, recovering from a narrow loss Germany to defeat New Zealand and Morocco by an aggregate score of 7-1. Mercedes Diz has been their standout player, netting six of La Albiceleste's eight goals to sit second in the adidas Golden Boot race. Ghana also recovered from an opening-day defeat to Norway by earning a credible draw with Brazil and defeating Canada. The lively Jessica Appiah has arguably been their standout, but the Black Maidens' strength is certainly in their collective.
Germany v Venezuela
This pair meet following contrasting group-stage campaigns. Germany were in little danger during their perfect opening round, scoring eight times via seven different scorers while conceding just three. Venezuela, on the other hand, lost two of their matches without scoring, but were ultimately saved by a wild, back-and-forth encounter with Zambia where, with an outfield player in goal following a red card to Valeria Rebanales, a 100th-minute Andrea Suarez overhead kick secured a 3-2 triumph.
DPR Korea v Morocco
Morocco's debut tournament as hosts ended at this stage to these opponents last year, as DPR Korea won 6-1 en route to lifting the title. The Atlas Lionesses now have their chance to exact revenge on a nation still smarting from a 3-1 loss to Nigeria which ended an unbeaten streak of 18 matches at this event. DPR Korea had been perfect up until that point, however, winning 6-0 and 6-1 versus Puerto Rico and Poland respectively. For Morocco, their record-breaking 4-0 win over New Zealand was followed by heavy defeats to Germany and Argentina, but a knockout berth in front of a home crowd, and a shot a payback, could ignite their tournament flame.
Brazil v Poland
Brazil begun their campaign as they meant to go on: by scoring goals. The South Americans hit Canada for six in their tournament opener before netting three apiece versus Ghana and Norway to finish top of Group C. Poland, meanwhile, ended their Group B campaign in a three-way tie for first with DPR Korea and Nigeria following a 2-1 win over the Flamingos and a 6-2 thrashing of Puerto Rico.
